Exploring and Celebrating African-American History in the Midlands

Columbia4kids is spotlighting Black History events throughout the Midlands that will be of interest to families and kids.

The 9th Annual Voices of Our People is a celebration of Black History Month and African-American culture with songs, poems and speeches of famous African Americans at the North Main Branch Library for kids of all ages. The program will be held on February 24 at 6:30pm.

Educational and fun is the best way to describe Follow the Drinking Guard: A Scavenger Hunt! Children ages 7 and up can participate in a scavenger hunt as they search for answers to clues from African-American history on February 18, 4pm at Southeast Regional Branch Library.

Libraries spotlight "love" for little ones

Check out the Valentine events at local branches

Local libraries throughout the Midlands will help children celebrate Valentine's Day with various activities and programs that they are sure to enjoy.

Sandhills, Cooper and Northeast Branch Libraries will have a "Be my Valentine!" activity on Thursday, February 13 at 3:30 p.m. (4pm at Northeast Regional) for children ages 5 & up. Bring the kids to hear Valentine's Day stories and songs and make something special to take home. In addition, Blythewood Branch Library will host "Valentine's Day is Here!" for children ages 3 & up. Let them celebrate this special day with stories and a craft on Friday, February 14, 3:30 p.m.
