Lorick Plantation HouseLake Murray Visitors' CenterCorner of Northlake and CarlislePhone: (803) 781-5940 or toll free 1-866- SC JEWEL. https://www.lakemurraycountry.com/activities12.htm Also named Green Acres, Lorick Plantation House was built in 1840 as a two-story gabled end structure. The house gracefully survived the civil war with heart pine floors and hand-honed rails. The home did experience some damage from General Sherman as his troops set it afire, but the courageous townfolk put out the fire after the Union troops rode off laughing. Boards in the dining room floor show evidence where General Sherman's troops attempted to burn the house. The house has a wide porch with fans, swings, and a peaceful view of a wooded area. Make yourself go inside though, and walk through the beautifully restored front rooms. The kids will enjoy the aquarium filled with Lake Murray fish and might even be interested in the display on Lake Murray's purple martins (birds) or the pictures of the building of the dam. The restrooms are clean and beautifully decorated. If you have been driving for a while with children, you may want to head there for a potty break. The house is located on the north side of the Lake Murray Dam on Highway #6, near Irmo. It sits at the intersection of Carlisle and Northlake roads, one block up from the SC6-SC60-Bush River intersection. Visitor's information, maps, and brochures are available. Group tours welcome. Handicapped accessible. Hours: Monday through Friday 9 to 5, Saturday 10-4, and Sunday 1-5. (Closed major holidays) Free.
